Agents and the API

REST API

Ask your brain and add to it from your own code. API keys, the base URL, and example requests for asking and adding files.

Agents that speak MCP should use MCP: they sign in as you and get every tool. For your own scripts and services, there is a REST API.

Get an API key

Open Settings › API Keys in Noetix and create a key. A key acts as the person who created it, in their workspace, and reaches the same brain.

Keep your key secret: anyone who has it can read and add to your brain as you. If it leaks, delete it in Settings › API Keys and create a new one.

The basics

Every request goes to:

https://api.noetix.dev/api/v1

and carries your key in this header:

X-Api-Key: <your-api-key>

Ask your brain

Send a question; get back what your brain knows about it.

curl -X POST "https://api.noetix.dev/api/v1/recall" \
  -H "X-Api-Key: <api-key>" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"query": "What do we know?"}'

Add a file

Upload a file into your brain. It is built in the background, like any upload.

curl -X POST "https://api.noetix.dev/api/v1/remember" \
  -H "X-Api-Key: <api-key>" \
  -F "data=@document.pdf" \
  -F "datasetName=my_agent_data"

Your workspace has one brain, so a file always goes into it, whatever dataset name the request sends.

Create another key

With a key you already hold, you can create more. Your first key always comes from Settings › API Keys.

curl -X POST "https://api.noetix.dev/api/v1/auth/api-keys" \
  -H "X-Api-Key: <api-key>" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"name": "MyAgent"}'

Limits

Every API request made with a key counts toward your workspace's monthly calls, shown in Settings › Usage, the same count MCP calls use.
